Royal Canadian Geographic Society fellowsIt was a memorable experience this week in Ottawa to have been elected as a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society, joining a list of Canada’s most intrepid explorers, geographers, writers, astronauts, actors, and former Prime Ministers as inductees.

From the RCGS: Fellows are nominated based on their significant contribution to Canadian geography, culture, and their embodiment of the longstanding values and tenets of the RCGS: the determination to build, courage to explore and outstanding service to Canada.

As new inductees were told, fewer Canadians have received this RCGS honour than been awarded the Order of Canada, so thanks to past president Gavin Fitch for the nomination. And thanks to everyone from the Royal Canadian Geographical Society involved in this memorable day for myself and Dianne, as well as friends and colleagues who have been in touch.
